Now running this Fine Art Photography youth group every Saturday morning in the Pride Of Place art gallery in Princes Quay, Hull. Anyone between 11-16 are welcome to join us in our weekly drop in sessions! The sessions consists of workshops, field trips, artist talks and presentations, plus an exhibition every 2nd month showing work by the group members.

We also have HIP club juniors, which is a drop in Photography group for children under 11 years old who want to get into photography. These sessions too take place in the POP gallery at 10.30 on Saturdays.

My work in HIP Fest

This is some of my work that is exhibited in St. Marys’ church in Hull, as a part of HIP fest.

These four pictures are taken in and around a hundred year old smelt work in a small town by the Hardanger fjord, in Norway. The smelt was very significant in the industrial revolution in the early 1900’s and produced among other calcium carbide and calcium cyanamide derivatives, that was exported to Great Britain, France and Hungary. The smelt went bankrupt in 2002 and have since suffered several fires, destroying most of the buildings around the site.

Beneath is some of the tile prints exhibited in another room in the church tower. The series made of photographs printed with liquid light onto ceramic tiles, is called “Bathroom Stories”, and focuses on the bathrooms function as a sanctuary, the little secret events taking place and the evidence left behind. The series was last exhibited in the Bargehouse, in London in 2014, as a part of the TURF grad show.

Here is a hand full pictures of some of the exhibitions in Hull international Photography festival,    -which is still on for a few more days! It has been such an exciting and colourful month (still is), and all the hard work put in by everyone involved has truly paid off, and the proof is in the venues; sparkling and interesting with brilliant, diverse work by artists from all around England, New Zealand, Belgium and Norway. This is only the 3rd year for the international photography festival, which had no intention getting so big already this year, and did not really have neither the man power or the funding for it, but pulled through anyway. Hats off. The council deciding to letting us use two additional spaces on the upper deck of Princes’ Quay, really made the difference. With such creativity, determination, attitude and hard work, HIP fest can not be other than spot on for City of Culture in 2017. I can not wait.

2 Days before the launch of Hull International Photography Festival!

The opening for Hull International Photography Festival is now only two days away, 18.30 on Friday it all kicks off and I am so excited! Managers, volunteers and everyone involved in the POP and HIP galleries, have worked their asses off for a long time now to make this a success, which I know for a fact it will be. The galleries are sparkling after a serious overhaul and the work we have received and hung in Prinny’ Quay look amazing. Artists such as Frieke Janssen, Peter Denchthe, John Bulmer, Ami Barwell and the whole Royal Photographic Society’s collection are to bee seen in the POP, HIP, Bank and Republic galleries in the shopping centre, and many more taking place in Hull Central Library, Western Library and St. Mary’s Church.

My own work, “Odda Smelteverk”, “Car Graveyard” and “Bathroom Stories” can be seen in the tower of St. Mary’s Church and the two libraries around town. Below is my poster;

CAR GRAVEYARD

Deep in the Swedish woods outside Töcksfors, lies a hidden gem; a car graveyard from the 1930’s that contains about 150 vehicles that are more or less taken back by nature and have become a part of the landscape. These pictures were taken on a trip in 2010, 15 years after my mum took me there the very first time at the age of five.
